(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS beat the visiting University of Toronto Varsity Blues 4-1 in U SPORTS exhibition men's hockey action Friday night at UNB's Aitken Centre.
After a scoreless first period, the home team erupted for three goals in the second period.
Camaryn Baber opened the scoring early in the frame, rifling a shot past Blues' goalie Jordan Fairlie at the 2:01 mark.
Michael Petizian scored a similar goal about ten minutes later and Nick Blagden pounced on a rebound and beat Fairlie at 15:36 to make it a 3-0 game.
Nicholas Athanasakos scored Toronto's only goal of the game mid-way through the third period.
Thomas Larouche added an empty net goal with 1:37 left on the clock.
Larouche finished the night with a goal and two assists.
Remi Delafontaine made 20 saves on 21 shots to earn the win in the UNB net while Fairlie faced 43 shots, stopping 40.
The REDS are now 4-and-0 in exhibition play. U of T is 2-and-3.
The REDS and Varsity Blues will meet again Saturday afternoon. Game time is 3:00pm.
Saturday's game will be the final pre-season game for the REDS, who open their Atlantic University Sport 2025-2026 campaign next Friday (Oct. 3) when they host the Dalhousie Tigers in a 7:00pm start.
