REDS Add Hometown Centre Reynolds
(FREDERICTON, NB) A locally grown talent is coming home as the UNB REDS, defending U SPORTS and Atlantic University Sport champions, add Fredericton native Peter Reynolds to their recruiting class of 2024.
“I am extremely excited to be returning to Fredericton and putting the REDS jersey on,” said Reynolds. “Growing up in Fredericton, I got into hockey watching Coach Hennigar and the REDS, so for myself, ever since I was 4 years old, I wanted to play here for UNB.”
The 5’10” centre has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 AUS season.
“We are extremely excited to add Peter to our team for the upcoming season,” said REDS head coach Rob Hennigar. “I’ve known Pete since he was coming through our programs as a kid and it’s great to get him a part of the UNB family.”
Reynolds played in 192 regular season games with Saint John and Halifax of the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League between 2020 and 2024, totalling 78 goals and 99 assists for 177 career points.
“I’m a 200-foot playmaker, and my biggest strength is my hockey IQ,” said Reynolds. “I think Coach Hennigar is most excited about my ability to create plays with the puck and ability to play a 200-foot game.”
Reynolds was part of the 2022 Memorial Cup champion Sea Dogs, scoring two goals and adding an assist to help win the trophy for Saint John on home soil.
“Peter brings talent and skill to the lineup,” said Hennigar. “He makes plays all over the ice and has the ability to break games open with his sense and offensive abilities. He will be looked upon as an integral piece to our lineup and can help in all areas.”
Being from Fredericton, Reynolds is already familiar with the UNB program and has spent time as teammates with current Reds players Nick Blagden and Kale McCallum.
“I played with Kale and Nick both in Saint John,” said Reynolds. “Being here in Fredericton during the summers, training with a lot of the guys over the years, I have gotten to know a lot of them.”
Reynolds will study Business while attending UNB.
