REDS Add Dubois
(FREDERICTON, NB) The defending U SPORTS and Atlantic University Sport champion UNB REDS men’s hockey team is naming centre Jax Dubois to their recruiting class of 2024.
Dubois, from Ottawa, recently completed his major junior career with the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League.
He’s signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2024-2025 AUS season.
“I am excited to be joining the REDS because of the rich hockey history and all the recent successes they have had,” said Dubois. “I think Coach Hennigar wants me here because he likes players who have experienced playing on championship teams and know what it takes to win.”
Dubois played a total of 182 regular season OHL games with Kingston and Peterborough, scoring 43 goals and adding 64 assists.
He was a member of the Petes’ 2023 OHL championship team that finished third at the 2023 Memorial Cup.
“Jax is a big body that plays hard and competes at both ends of the ice,” said REDS’ head coach Rob Hennigar. “He brings a winning pedigree after winning an OHL championship with the Petes and is excellent in the faceoff dot. We are thrilled to add him to our group.”
Standing 6’4”, Dubois brings size and skill to the REDS.
“As a player, I see myself as a strong power forward who is very versatile and can play in every situation,” said Dubois. “I'm just as comfortable in the defensive end as I am creating opportunities in the offensive end.”
“Jax will be relied upon in many areas of the game,” said Hennigar. “His ability to use his length and his strength in the faceoff circle allows him to contribute to our team’s success.”
Dubois has some familiarity with his REDS teammates. Emmett Sproule and Dubois played together during his first year in the OHL with the Petes. Dubois looked up to Sproule during their time together and credits Sproule for being a significant influence in helping him make his decision to come to UNB.
“I am excited to take this opportunity with the REDS to join their winning culture and be a part of continuing the winning tradition,” said Dubois.
Dubois will study Business while attending UNB.
Dubois and the REDS open their 2024-2025 schedule on home ice on Friday, October 4th at 7:00 pm against the Dalhousie Tigers.
