Murray Joins AHL Senators

(UNDATED) Two-time U SPORTS Defenceman of the Year Jordan Murray, of the two-time defending University Cup champion UNB Varsity Reds, has signed with the American Hockey League’s Binghamton Senators.

Murray signed an Amateur Tryout Agreement, and officially joined the Senators ahead of Wednesday’s road game against the Rochester Americans.

The Riverview, New Brunswick, native just finished his fourth season with the Varsity Reds.

He was the top-scoring defenceman in Canada, with 14 goals and 26 assists in 30 regular season games.

"Jordan has had a lot of pro interest over his entire career at UNB,” said Varsity Reds associate coach Rob Hennigar. “I'm extremely proud to see him get a chance to start in the AHL and fulfill a goal he’s been working towards for four years.”

Murray was a first team All-Canadian the past three seasons, after being named to the country’s All-Rookie team following his first season.

His jump to pro hockey comes as no surprise to Hennigar.

“Jordan has an uncanny ability to control the play every time he’s on the ice,” said Hennigar. “He plays with grit and skill, which is a rare combination, and has the ability to lead a team from the back end. He is gifted offensively but he did a great job in helping us break out of our zone. He makes a great first pass. We wanted the puck in Jordan's hands.”

Hennigar believes Murray has the necessary tools to succeed in Binghamton.
