Carroll's Big Night

Carroll's Big Night

(FREDERICTON, NB) Tyler Carroll saved his best for last.

The fifth year Varsity Reds forward scored three times and assisted on another goal, leading UNB to a 5-1 win over the visiting Universite de Moncton Aigles Bleus.

"It's nice to finally see something on the score sheet," said Carroll, who earned first star honours.

Cameron Brace assisted on all three of Carroll's goals and was the game's third star.

Philippe Halley and Rob Mignardi also scored for the Varsity Reds, who improved their Atlantic University Sport record to 6-0-1.

Marc-Anthony Therrien was the only Aigles Bleue to beat VReds' netminder Alex Dubeau. He stopped 27 of the 28 shots he faced. "We don't get a lot of shots against, so I just stayed focused tonight and it felt great."

Dubeau made a pair of big saves late in the second period, as UNB killed a two-man advantage. He was glad to contribute. "It was one of the key moments of the game. If they had scored there, the game would've, maybe, changed."

Moncton came into the game as the ninth ranked team in Canada, but coach Serge Bourgeois wasn't impressed by his team's effort. "It was probably our worst game, as a whole team," said Bourgeois. "We missed assignments, we gave the puck away too much, they're a good team over there and you can't afford that."

The Varsity Reds hit the road Saturday, heading to Charlottetown to face the UPEI Panthers.
