Game 3 - UNB swamps UPEI 7-2 in Subway AUS semi finals

Charlottetown, P.E.I. – The UNB Varsity Red take a 2-1 lead in the Subway AUS Men’s Hockey semi final best 3 of 5 series with a 7-2 win over the UPEI Panthers Monday night at MacLauchlan Arena.
The Panthers had the home crowd behind them but were unable to get any momentum going. UNB scored the first goal at 11:32 off of Chris Culligan stick on the power play. Three minutes later on the power play Matthew Brenton answered back for the Panthers and end the first period tied 1-1.
The second period started out goal for goal, with UNB getting a goal at 7:00 from Bryce Swam. Six minutes later Jordan Knox on the power play tied it up for the Panthers. The tie was short lived as Cam Braes scored 40 seconds later in what would be the game winner. With less than 30 seconds to play UNB took a 4-2 lead on the shorthanded goal by Ben Shutron.
The third period was quick and aggressive by both teams. UNB was able to add three more goals in the last 5 minutes from Tyler Carroll, Braes s and Stefan Salituro to finish 7-2.
Near the end of the game, frustration set in and the penalties were many with less than 4 minutes to go. In total there was 112 minutes in penalties for the two teams.
The Panthers lost the first game same score so will look to come back. The two teams will play again tomorrow night at 7pm in game 4 of the Subway AUS Men’s Hockey Semi Final. Watch live on AUStv.ca.
