CIS Men’s Hockey Championship game times and the Hockey Hall of Fame comes to Fredericton

The Host Committee of the Cavendish Farms University Cup presented by The Home Depot is aiming to make the 2012 event a special one as Canadian Interuniversity Sport celebrates 50 years of hockey.
Fans will have the opportunity to get a slice of history as the Host Committee, in conjunction with their partners at Astral Media, announced that the Hockey Hall of Fame will set up an exhibit next door to the Aitken University Centre in the South Gym during the festivities.
“We’re excited about adding some different dimensions so hockey fans of all ages can enjoy the event,” said Lloyd Henderson, 2012 host committee chair.
Included in the exhibit will be 12 panel displays of hockey legends, ranging from old and modern NHL stars to past University Cup champions including the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds. Henderson said the committee is hopeful to bring in memorabilia from former New Brunswick championship hockey teams and players as well.
The designated family fan zone in the South Gym will also see two major NHL trophies on display and feature five interactive games. Fans can test their skills at air hockey, in a virtual goalie set up, a stick-handling game, a target shooting challenge, and playing in a mini-hockey rink.
Henderson said it’s to ensure that we expand the hockey experience to the greater community.
The exhibit will run through Friday, March 23rd to Sunday, March 25th. The hours of operation have yet to be determined. Entry will be free of charge.
The tournament game times have also been confirmed, with the action getting underway at 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 22nd. The Varsity Reds will play their first match after the opening ceremonies at 7 p.m. on Thursday evening. Friday’s matches will be played at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., and, in order to accommodate Rogers Sportsnet telecast, Saturday’s games will start at 11:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Sunday’s championship game will begin at 8 p.m. All times are AST. The final two tournament games will be broadcast nationally while all others will be live on the internet with the Streaming Sports Network (www.ssncanada.ca).
