REDS Advance At National Championships
(LETHBRIDGE, AB) UNB's Jamie Stewart rink is through to the semi-final round at the U SPORTS Men's Curling Championship, in Lethbridge, Alberta.
The REDS, one of four teams to finish with a 4-3 record, finished third in the standings following round robin play and will face second place Wilfrid Laurier.
UNB completed their round robin schedule on Thursday with a win and a loss.
In their first game of the day, they allowed Brock to score 3 in the first end and 2 more in the third in a 6-1 loss to the Badgers.
In a later draw, the Stewart rink scored 2 in the first end and stole 2 more in the second in a 6-3 victory over the host Lethbridge Pronghorns.
"We've accomplished our first goal of this adventure," said REDS' head coach Gary Wilson. "We wanted to advance to the medal round and we're looking forward to playing for a medal."
Friday's semi-final goes at 9:30am Mountain time, 12:30pm Atlantic.
Laurier finished round robin play with a 5-2 record, including a 10-5 win over UNB in the opening draw.
The Golden Hawks scored five times in a late end in that game.
"The guys are excited to have a second chance to play them as they are one of the favourites," said Coach Wilson. "We'll give it our best effort."
First place Memorial meets fourth place Carleton in the other men's semi-final.
