Olunloyo Commits To REDS
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS men’s basketball team is naming standout guard Isaiah Olunloyo as the first member their 2026 recruiting class.
The 18-year-old, from Brampton, Ontario, has signed a U SPORTS Letter of Intent and will join the REDS ahead of the 2026-2027 Atlantic University Sport season.
“Isaiah is a Swiss Army Knife on the floor,” said REDS’ head coach Joe Salerno. “He can defend, score, distribute, and play multiple positions. We feel he’s someone who is ready to play at the U SPORTS level and will contribute to our team immediately.”
Olunloyo is completing his Grade 12 year at Brampton’s Castlebrooke Secondary School and is a member of the Brampton City Prep national competition team which plays in the Ontario Scholastic Basketball Association.
“What drew me to UNB was the culture of accountability, and the pride the community has in its student-athletes,” said Olunloyo. “The strong team culture made it clear this is a place where I can grow on and off the court. I want to represent something bigger than myself and compete at a championship level every day.”
The 6’4” Olunloyo was the OSBA’s Defensive Player of the Year in 2024-2025 and was named an OSBA West Division All-Star in both 2025 and 2024.
On the tournament circuit, he’s helped teams win multiple championships and earned multiple tournament MVP and All-Star honours.
"He’s been one of the best all-around guards in the OSBA the last couple of seasons,” said Coach Salerno. “One of the things that drew us to Isaiah was his compete level. He competes every time he steps on the court and will do whatever it takes to win."
“I bring leadership, pace control, and strong decision-making,” said Olunloyo. “I focus on creating opportunities for others, communicating on both ends, and setting the tone defensively at the point of attack. As a teammate, I’m accountable, vocal, and committed to keeping everyone organized, confident, and connected on the floor.”
Olunloyo says his immediate goal is to show his new teammates that he’s reliable, disciplined, and committed to the team’s success. Long-term, he says he wants to help bring championships to UNB and leave a legacy of leadership.
Olunloyo will study Arts while attending UNB.
