REDS Roll Over Falcons
(FREDERICTON, NB) The UNB REDS dominated their 2024 Atlantic Football League home opener Saturday night, defeating the Saint John Falcons 51-7 at UNB’s BMO Centre.
Matt Lafleur opened the scoring for the REDS with a touchdown less than three minutes into the first quarter.
A short time later, Nick Parker extended the lead for the REDS with a 30-yard TD catch.
Thomas Hoyt followed with a big scoring play, carrying the ball over 40 yards for another REDS touchdown.
Both Lafleur and Parker each added second touchdowns, and the REDS closed the first quarter with a 35-0 lead.
The second quarter featured a historic moment for the Saint John Falcons, as they scored their
first touchdown in franchise history.
Along with the visiting team's touchdown, the Falcons conceded a safety, and Reyes Landry
added another touchdown for the REDS, bringing the score to 44-7 going into halftime.
Then, with less than two minutes left in the game, Grayson Rutters threw a 35-yard pass to
Logan Box for a touchdown, Box’s first TD as a RED.
The REDS, now 1-1, are back in action Saturday when they travel to Halifax to take on Dalhousie. Game time is 12:30pm.
