REDS Finish On A High Note
(GUELPH, ON) The UNB REDS ended their 2024 season on a winning note Saturday, a small victory in their trip to the Canadian University Baseball Championship, in Guelph and Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario.
The REDS scored twice in the first inning and added four more in the second in a 7-5 win over the Universite de Quebec at Trois Rivieres.
Ryan Galbraith drove in four runs as UNB built a 6-1 lead.
UQTR fashioned a gritty comeback which ultimately fell short.
Cooper Fraser, Iain Warr, and Nick St. Pierre were solid on the mound for the REDS and Adam Wenzel was named Player of the Game.
After travel issues delayed the REDS arrival in Ontario, UNB was forced to play twice on Friday.
In their first game, they dropped a 6-3 decision to the host Guelph Gryphons.
The REDS jumped out to an early lead. Tyler Doucette and Ian Humphrey both drove in runs to give UNB a 2-0 advantage.
Strong Guelph pitching then limited the REDS to just a single run the rest of the way.
In their second game of the day, the REDS lost a hard-fought game to Carleton, the eventual national champions.
The Ravens opened the scoring in the second inning before the REDS struck with a pair in the third.
Carleton erupted for three runs in the fourth, which proved to be enough
Connor Hill was named UNB’s player of the tournament.
